Car Parking and Drop Off Information

31 05 2008

Cars are not allowed on the campsite itself. There are drop off arrangements as follows: those in cars who are camping can arrive to the front of De Montfort Hall, Granville Road (main gates) where their luggage can be dropped off and labelled.  The luggage will then be loaded into a closed top vehicle and will be driven the short distance over to the campsite. Customers can then find a parking place and make their way to the campsite more comfortably to collect their kit. There is also a hard standing area for pre-booked camper vans and caravans immediately adjacent to the main site, but this is not next to the camping. Caravan owners will be asked to unhook their towing vehicles and park them elsewhere.

Where to Park:

For those arriving by car, there will be a limited number of pre-paid parking tickets available from Friday midday (13 June). They are £15 for the whole weekend and will be available from the Box Office at the festival site. Disabled badge holders can book these free of charge (please display your badge on arrival).

If you’ve been before you’ll know that parking around the festival site can be difficult. There’s not all that much we can do about this, sorry – despite having a lovely green field site, we are in an urban setting and as the festival has become more and more popular, the demand for parking has increased too!

However, we’re delighted to announce that we have again joined together with NCP to provide considerable additional car parking for the festival. You can now park in any one of three NCP Leicester car parks any time between midday Friday 13th to Sunday 15th at a flat rate of £4.50 for any 24-hour period. So no more worries about hourly charges clocking up.

The NCP car parks on Granby Halls, Welford Road and East Street are only 10 minutes walk away, and the others around the city are on local bus routes.

All you have to do is go to the car park, and take your ticket from the machine at the entrance and when you wish to leave, simply go to a staffed validation point (it’s in the cloakroom in the main foyer of the Hall) and this will activate the saving. Then just put your ticket in the machine at the car park, pay as normal, and leave via the barrier.

The only one working a bit differently is the Granby Halls car park, which is pay and display. At this one simply pay £4.50 for each day you are staying and put the ticket in the windscreen as normal. The enclosed map shows all the locations.

There is the pay and display car park next to DMH but spaces are limited this year, so once it’s full, it’s full – charges are dependent upon when you arrive, but no more than £4.50 for 12 hours; after 6pm until midnight it’s £1.40. After midnight it’s free until 6am though you can feed the machine in advance. Saturday rates are slightly cheaper and free all day Sunday.

Street parking – the roads around Regent College campsite have parking meters. Charges are Monday-Saturday 7am to 6pm £3, free from 6pm to 7.30am, free all day Sunday. These spaces are generally in use during weekdays.
