Babel
20th Jun 2009@ 13:50 Indoor Main Stage
That’s ‘Bay-bull’. Not ‘bar-bell’ or ‘babble’. Born in Bristol, England, Babel started out all folksy and a bit shy but then fell in dirty love with pounding tambourines, unsettling strings and volume knobs.
Babel are:
Danny Coughlan (Vocals / Guitar) Ben Bird (Bass Guitar) Rick Brown (Guitars)
Martin Lanchester (Violin) and/ or Emily Travis (Viola/Violin) Daisy Palmer (Drums)
"Bucketloads of promise- vocally, lyrically and musically. ….Watch this space" The Sun "A rousing, impromptu busking style.. Pearl Street Raga sounds like it might be the first contribution to an impressive oeuvre" Rock and Reel
"Babel’s brand of spine-tingling electric-folk suggests a potential audience far beyond devotees of The Wicker Man" Uncut Magazine
"Bristolian Sextet Babel are a very splendid thing like a cross between Led Zep III, Rufus Wainwright & Midlake" Sunday Telegraph 2008
Babel’s 2009 tour starts on 20th February with 16 UK dates to support the release of the album ‘Crooked Timber’. Press reviews from the likes of NME, Mojo, Uncut and Q Mag have been very favourable.
